What Medications are Available?

The formulary of direct manufacturer/distributor donated medication is updated quarterly and mostly consists of primary care medications to treat chronic diseases, including:

  • Diabetes Mellitus:
    • Treatment options include Insulin, and Oral medications like Metformin, Sulfonylureas, and SGLT2 inhibitors to regulate blood sugar.
  • Hepatitis:
    • Antivirals (e.g., Tenofovir for Hepatitis B, Sofosbuvir-Velpatasvir for Hepatitis C) and Ribavirin are used to manage the condition.
  • Asthma & Allergy:
    • Common treatments include Bronchodilators (Salbutamol, Formoterol), Corticosteroids (Budesonide), Leukotriene inhibitors (Montelukast) and Antihistamines.
  • Thalassemia:
    • Management involves Iron chelation (deferoxamine) and folic acid supplements.
  • Hypertension:
    • Treatment available according to the set guidelines like ACE-I (Lisinopril), ARB (Telmisartan), CCB (Amlodipine).
  • Epilepsy:
    • Available treatment includes Sodium Valproate (Epival).

Dr. Salman Rashid Randhawa, Consultant Diabetologist, has extensive experience from PIC and Services Hospital Lahore.
